Volunteering Your Time Overseas For A Unique Experience
Type of volunteer work
When you participate as a volunteer overseas you could be signing up to teach children how to play sports or working as a journalist in Kenya. The opportunities are endless and you can do a lot of good through many volunteer opportunities overseas and reap many of the benefits too. This wonderful experience is not just one you will be able to add to your CV but is one that will hopefully open your eyes up to the rest of the world to see how many other people in poverty really live. Many people want to become a volunteer because it gives them a chance to visit remote places in the world in which they may struggle to travel to just as a regular tourist.
Volunteering overseas:
Volunteering Abroad with the right organisation is imperative to the success of your project. There are lots of companies online offering volunteering placements overseas but you have to understand that not all of them are authentic. Before you go ahead and book a placement with a company ensure you do a bit of background research to ensure the company are who they say they are. You will be able to tell who the authentic companies are as they will be the companies who offer a variety of different projects instead of just the one project in one country regardless of whether you want to volunteer in Kenya. Some of the better companies will have representatives on the ground in their host countries looking after you and don’t be surprised when you are required to pay a fee for your placement as without it you would have no food, accommodation or in fact a placement.
Volunteering destinations:
May people are a little bit concerned with travelling to really far off destinations. This doesn’t automatically mean you won’t be able to participate in volunteer work, you can always choose a company which offers placements closer to home. Northern Africa is only a 3 hour flight from the UK and most of the same amenities are readily available. However sometimes volunteering further afield can be better for you and give you more education and a better experience in the long run.
