How To Avoid Jet Lag When Crossing Time Zones

Imagine counting down the days towards a great trip-that took careful planning and saving-only to step off the plane and want to sleep for three days. Or landing in Dubai and going straight to a meeting where all the participants are discussing very important deals, only to be falling asleep at the conference table.

Exhaustion, muscle tension, dry skin, dehydration, and time confusion are all symptoms of a common drawback to long-distance travel called jet lag. Here are some advice you can follow if you want to fight the fatigue when crossing time zones:

Dont drink alcohol before or during the flight. Adding to fatigue and dehydration is alcohol.

Its important that you drink significant amount of water during the flight and upon landing. Water will help with muscle fatigue and cut down on the dehydration.

As soon as you step on the plane, set your watch for the time that matches that of your destination and sleep according to the location to which you are flying. If youre on a plane in the afternoon but its late at night in the city youre flying to, then its time to sleep.

While sleeping on the plane, sleep as long as possible to create a nighttime sleep experience. Use earplugs and light-reducing eye covers if needed.

As much as possible, elevate your feet during the flight.

Helping to refresh and revitalize you upon arrival is a shower. Then, adhere to the local time and try to avoid napping.

Staying up as late as possible on the first night is also helpful. Try to stay up until at least midnight if your schedule will require many late nights.

The most difficult is probably the second day. Remain on schedule at the time of your destination. Request a wake-up call, or set an alarm, for the morning and begin the second day.

For muscle fatigue and dehydrated skin, try a spa treatment.
