Getaways In Michigan
OK, I’ll be among the very first to admit that when my husband brought up the notion of our vacations in michigan, I looked at him like he was daft. Likely to Michigan merely wasn’t on my list of top ten vacation destinations. And to be h1st, it was preferable to a Siberian family vacation but not by much. It isn’t that I had anything against Michigan, in reality, I was rather neutral about the state, it’s just that I wasn’t positive exactly what there was to do there.
The whole idea for the vacation came about when my hubby discovered out that he had to go there for perform. He figured that we could squeeze in a holiday getaway; all he had to perform was stay on to get a couple of days after he was done with his work thing. The only problem was that it was winter in Michigan! I was not particularly eager to leave the warm climate of sunny California and only begrudgingly agreed to go together with his idea.
As I was so reluctant about the trip in general, Riccomplicated, my husband took it upon himself to do all of the planning from booking our flights to arranging lodging and even actions. My only task was to pack and yet, I felt like I was offered the additional difficult job.
Since my Southern California wardrobe consisted of jeans, sneakers and warm weather clothes with the occasional lightweight jacket and sweaters for those evenings when the temperatures dip into the 50′s, I realized I’m in trouble. When I ventured into a ski shop, I was horrified by the prices of the clothes, but I dutifully purchased a nice heavy jacket that was on sale and guaranteed to withstand the worst temperatures.
In an eerie coincidence we did land in Detroit in a snowstorm. I’m still not sure if I did not leave any scars or poor Richard’s arms as I clawed into him on our landing. I was incredibly smug that I’d carried my jacket and not packed it into the luggage. A blast of mind numbing cold air was the initial thing that greeted us in Michigan. Simply ideal.
Once we were checked into our luxury lodging and starting to rest, I gazed out the window as the silent white flakes floated to the ground. I had to admit that it really was quite marvelous. Although Richard was attending his conference, I spent my time resting up, getting pampered at the spa and trying to pry where we were going out of Richard but alas, he informed me that he’d planned one of our excursions in Michigan and he was holding out for the surprise.
When the business stuff was done with we hopped into a rented car and headed north for a surprise that Richard had planned for us. Incidentally whenever you rent a car on excursions in Michigan, it comes complete with snow chains. Thankfully we did not ought to use these as the weather held up.
As we drove by means of the gates of our vacation destination, Shanty Creek resort, I gazed at the beautiful recent $10 million renovated resort. Richard had booked an appointment for a couple’s spa treatment nearly immediately upon our arrival at Shanty Creek and that was the beginning of a great week of pampering, gourmet dining, cross country skiing and yes, even a dog sled ride. And as we checked out and drove out back to Detroit to head for residence, I admitted that I wouldn’t mind a bit if we spent much more vacations in Michigan.
